Saved me a job

I've been meaning to fell this tree for firewood ahead of the winter however I woke up this morning to discover the wind has not only saved me a job but it's dropped it nicely into the only possition that it could have fallen without doing damage

Re: Saved me a job

That's not a small tree either Phil. Given the weather the whole country has had these last two days there has been a few trees down, not always so fortunate as in your case I fear.

Re: Saved me a job

Lucky there phil it could have dropped on your camera. Looks pretty rotten from what the photo shows.

We had a huge weeping willow taken down the other year as we were worried it might fall and hit the house

Re: Saved me a job

Yep - pretty lucky.

It was one of my Eucalyptus trees.

I bought half a dozen or so about 10 years ago when we bought the small field at the back of the house. They were only about 6 inches high when I planted them but I chose them as they're fast growing and I wanted something to screen as quickly as possible whilst I waited for the naitive trees to grow. The Birch and Whitebeam are nice and big now so the Eucalyptus trees did their job. We've still 3 of the original 6 (20-40 feet) standing but the prolonged cold of the last couple of winters did for the others.

Bazza is right - this one was dead. I was going to fell it earlier in the year but once cut, the wood would have dried out so much by the time it was needed, that it wouldn't have had much burning in it so I was leaving it as late as possible.
