Chrysler Building

I took this photo in October 2011 on our holiday to the States.

We flew out to NYC for the first 5 days on October the 29th I seem to recall; or there about. Anyway it was crazy weather when we arrived with heavy snow storms that closed Central Park for two days and caused even more grief across the NY State.
Fortunately the weather passed for us and we had a great stay and enjoyed Halloween night in NYC (I can recommend that if you haven't done it, they hold the world’s largest Halloween street parade) and then we flew on to Orlando to see some friends of ours. After 3 days with them, we hired a convertible Mustang and travelled on for a week down to Captiva Island, before returning to spend our last night with our friends in Orlando before returning back to the UK. A great holiday!

Re: Chrysler Building

Love it, probably one of my most favourite buildings in the world. It is stunning on the outside and the interior if you like Art Deco, not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's beautiful.

Re: Chrysler Building

I really like this one esp the composition. As Moonie said it's a fabulous building and I think you've got a period feel to this one too.

KenTT “I would get continual neck ache if I was there”

NYC is a funny place Ken, when you are there it can be incredibly difficult to get a full length and relatively up close view or photo of some of the most iconic skyscrapers due to how crowded the skyline and street line can be. It is very difficult to get a perspective of just how high these skyscrapers are because more often than not, unlike their modern and sleek equivalents the first 30 -50 floors or so look like an ordinary office block with the main skyscraper part of the structure then stepped back from the edge and often out of line of site if you are stood very near to it….So it is quite possible to be stood very near the ESB for example and not be able to see it or even know where it is if you are not familiar with NYC……If you can understand what I mean by that?

The Empire State Building is particularly difficult to photograph in context for the reasons above and the best photos come from being stood many blocks away. But I do have a favourite photo I took that I have framed in my lounge of the ESB which I will post up shortly.

Moonstone “probably one of my most favourite buildings in the world”

Agree with this fully, a truly magnificent building and one of the greatest in the world.

Thanks everyone else for the kind comments.

Regards the perspective, composition and period feel. It was all very deliberate as I think the second building in the shot (don’t know what it is called) has an incredible art deco and industrial feel also and yet usually doesn’t feature in photos of the Chrysler Building, so I worked hard at the angle to get it in to shot in the right way as I felt it deserved to be there and complimented the Chrysler Building perfectly.

Cheers,

Tony
