Love it! I never get close enough for a shot like this...the red patch of skin on the head of cranes is like a fingerprint..no two ever exactly alike and records are kept of that red patch to ID individual cranes...it also gets brighter and appears larger when displaying to a rival...a bowed head with the red patch bright says get away from here! Thanks everyone, i was really pleased with this shot. (taken in Davie, Florida) I love the amber eyes and strong vivid head colour.
Shirley, many thanks for the info on the red crest, i didn't realise it was a unique identifier.
