Re: My still life

Have to be honest as usual. I have never attempted doing that kind of still life so its a bit of a mystery on the subject. To me they look excellent, and a couple of pointers on the setup on how to and what lighting etc would make a good tip to pass on Please. Such as camera setting- lens-distance-backdrop- lighting type of thing

Hi Bazza
As this is my first go at this type of photography I thought it turned out not bad at all.
They were taken during the day in the kitchen with the blind open in bright day light.

You would not believe what I used.
I used the toaster and a baking tray and a black T-shirt, and a black reflector for the back drop.

I put the baking tray on top of the toaster to give me a large flat area to place things on. Then I covered them with the black T-shirt to hide the tray and the toaster.
Then the black reflector was placed behind to hide the white tiles in the kitchen

I used 2x tripods one for the camera and one for the flash, the flash was set to manual
And the power set to 1/64,

The Camera was set to ISO 100 and a shutter speed of 1/250 the maximum sync for my flash.
At this speed the camera will not record ambient light if you try taking a picture at this speed it will be black on the camera screen when you review it this is what you want,

Then when you fire the flash at this speed it will ignore the ambient light and just the very little light from the flash to light the subject. And then into photoshop to adjust the blacks if need be.

The flash is fired wirelessly with my 7D and was set at about 45 degrees to the subject and about a foot away. Take a photo if it is to bright move the flash back away from the subject by about 6 inches, and try again and the same again keep moving the flash back until you get the result you want.

Hope this makes sense to you any questions just ask and I will try and explain it better

Cheers Gordon
