Taken 44 years ago today

Quote:
English: Taken by Apollo 8 crewmember Bill Anders on December 24, 1968, showing the Earth seemingly rising above the lunar surface. Note that this phenomenon is only visible from someone in orbit around the Moon. Because of the Moon's synchronous rotation about the Earth (i.e., the same side of the Moon is always facing the Earth), no Earthrise can be observed by a stationary observer on the surface of the Moon.
We have a beautiful planet - I hope we don't destroy it.

An iconic image

The Earth (and life on it) goes in cycles. We're just a blip in one of many cycles - we'll not destroy it.

99.9% of everything that's ever lived is now extinct. Things needs to die to allow the process of evolution to work.

Sure, we'll accelerate our impact on all the current inhabitants and life to the point that we're knackered a smidge earlier than we otherwise would have been, but in the greater scheme of things, it's no big deal.

The earth itself will keep going and move onto something different.

Dare I say (if you're a planet lover) the sooner the better.
