Re: shutter count

Phil the file count isn't the same as shutter actuations. you need to follow the link I posted in tips. The shutter count (actuations) doesn't return back to zero.
With that link you get up the last photo taken then it shows the shutter count

Re: shutter count

My old 300D went round 3 times (30,000 plus pics)

My 30D is on its second round, I think it's on the 11-12,000 now.

The shutter count is high mainly because I used to do a lot of motor stuff (GP, Touring car, MotoX etc) and you can easily do a 1000 shots in a day.

The band stuff I do also uses up a lot of the counter, If I do 4 or 5 bands in a night, I will take around 250 of each act, so again I can take anywhere from 1000 to 1250 in an evening

Sorting them out is the real hard work

Hey Moonstone,

Yes I do break them up. For the band shoots, I have a target of 24 images for the band (4 images makes up 2 pages on my website). The reason for this is because I know from experience that people will not look at more than around 20 images, if they have to click through pages then they generally will not bother.

I take all the shots of a band, and put them in to folders (Drummer, Vocals, Lead Guitar etc) then that way I know that I only have to take the best 5 or 6 from each folder.

You get a lot of dud shots from live bands, the lighting is constantly changing, people are jumping around, lots of people close their eyes a lot (really annoying) or stand behind their Microphones (argh!) so you do throw a lot of shots away.

At the end of the day, my target is to get 4 shots of each band member alone, a few 'dual' shots with say Singer/Guitarist and then a couple of 'group' shots. This makes up the 24 images.

As for how I got in to it, my friend invited me along to a shoot he was doing of a band, and I loved it, and have never looked back

Alan.

Re: shutter count

Thanks for replying it makes sense to limit the number of images, as you are right I tend to go through the first page of a subject and then click on the next gallery

It seems you have the system, of sorting them all out, sussed

Sounds great fun! must be cool to combine two things you love music and photography, would love to try it one day I was wondering how you coped with the changing light conditions etc, so you basically just go with the flow

Thanks Suzi x
