Great images of a cob territorial busking display. (The male swan uses this behaviour to drive invaders from his territory)
Swan behaviour fascinates me; did you know that the Mute Swan mates for life rarely ever changing mates - unless their partner dies. If a male loses his mate and pairs with a young female, she joins him on his territory. If he mates with an older female, they go to hers. If a female loses her mate, she remates quickly and usually chooses a younger male.

Having been chased by one across the mud of Poole Harbour whilst cockling, I can testify to there territoriality. Damn thing started to guard the boat which was on the mud so I was the decoy as my father dashed in to get the buckets out of the boat so we could carry on cockling.
When the tide came in and the boat started to float the swan lost interest and wandered off. Thankfully

Thanks all, and some interesting info, I knew they mated for life, but had no idea they were so concerned with age etc. Very interesting!
