Thanks for your help and decided on the 70-200f4 non is, did a reserve and collect at jessops and with the cash back seems a good deal against the second hand prices. Hopefully take it out this afternoon, Never had an L series lens so looking forward to the results.

i've got the 70-200 f/4 sans IS. great lens, good focal length for a walkaround lens, looks great even when coupled with a teleconverter, but it gets heavy after awhile. i use a north face backpack as a camera bag and some carbiners attached to the camera strap and the bag's arm straps to keep the weight off of my neck. the camera still stays around my neck and is always at hand, but the bag carries the weight for me.

I agree. I feel 70-200mm is a bit too long for a walk about lens. I to use the 24-105 almost exclusively.
