Dragonfly ID ??
There were about a dozen of these resting on a bush in my garden - it was a bit breezy but I managed to get a couple with the Ixus Compact on it's macro setting.
Just out of curiosity I wondered what they were ?
The only thing similar in a book I have is a 'Southern Hawker' but it says that they're absent from Scotland..

Really jealous, I spent a fortune on a macro lens and endless hours tramping through various spiky bush and got nothing in the same league as these.

I don't have a dedicated macro lens but for fairly big things like this the compact does a decent job providing they stay still as there's the usual slight delay between pressing the button and the shot firing.
