A new view of a Rose

Hi, I'm back again now its the summer hols. What do you think of this photo, I was trying to capture a rose in a 'differen't way. I'm quite new to still lifes and flower photography still so advice very welcome. Thanks

edit - it looks a bit pixelated, I think this is due to Photobucket

Re: A new view of a Rose

I'm not sure Polo, I do like the shallow DOF, and it is an unusual shot of a rose.

Re: A new view of a Rose

It's certainly an interesting shot, but I think it could have done with a very slightly higher DOF as it's almost a bit too abstract, if that makes sense? Took me a while to work it out, but I'm not sure if that's just because I need to go to bed and my eyes have given up

Re: A new view of a Rose

I like the abstract look to this image and it makes interesting viewing.

Personally I would try to blur the petal at the bottom of the flower as the hard edge is distracting. I think only the neck of the vase should be sharp.

Good effort

Re: A new view of a Rose

Not sure Polo, it is a view of the pot but viewing it does need some input from the viewer. Think it good to experiment and I think I would advice another go and try a wider dof and perhaps a few different angles.

Re: A new view of a Rose

Hmm.... not sure either to be honest, I think the shallow DoF has potential, but I think as said already, it's a bit too abstract for my eyes.

Re: A new view of a Rose

I can't advise but for me all I see is the vase, I wouldn't really be able to tell what flower was there and wouldn't take the rose as the main viewpoint so would have a different heading myself.

Great to see you experimenting though.
