The English Landscape...

I've probably not done it justice in my photograph but the Uk has some fantastic scenery. I've enjoyed the weekend in the north west, and headed back towards the north east (back to my course) and seen some breathtaking views. However, although I am a walker and covered many miles on foot, I saw loads of potential photographs from the car but couldn't stop in a safe place on the narrow roads. But, we have some great scenery in the UK.

Incidentally, exposure was a real problem, I had trouble controlling skies and ground and got some burn't out highlights in the sky even at 1/3 stop underexposure and dark grey grad filter. Not only that, Nikons tend to under expose slightly, so there was often loads of contrast between sky and ground.

Anyway, here's one snapped on my travels...I was tempted to buy the shack and live the hermit life but no broadband to upload my crap to YoP!

Incidentally, some of you may like the fact this is on the nifty fifty we all have but many of you don't use! This is only a scaled image of the original as always.

Re: The English Landscape...

I like the way you've called it the 'English' countryside then gone on to talk about the great scenery in the UK.

We are very lucky here to have such diversity in what at the end of the day is a small Island.

Not having the chance to stop the car is one of the most frustrating things especially where I live. Every morning I pass by a particular spot on the outskirts of Perth as I cross a high bridge over the Tay.

Picture the scene - The River Tay shrouded in low mist - church spires are the only part of Perth visible poking up through the mist against the backdrop of snowy mountains - beneath a blue sky.

The bridge is a small section of motorway so there's no way of getting 'that' view from anywhere else.

Re: The English Landscape...

I like that picture BC - a view probably dismissed by many as boring.

I like to see the heather management too - should be a good moor come the glorious 12th.

Re: The English Landscape...

Boring, hmm, not sure, I like the remoteness and tried to illustrate it. For me, less can be more, very simple, the colour and the single building. I know sometimes we can have that 'you had to be there to understand' which means occasionally a photograph will have the emotional attachment for the photographer and little for anyone else.

As I said before, comments appreciated, glad you like it. Incidentally as you have a D300 I found the D Lighting setting useful for handling some landscape stuff with extreme contrast but was still a little disappointed that the lattitude wasn't enough. That's why I know cameras like the Fuji S5 Pro are enjoyed by landscape photographers for lattitude but are lacking in resolution at only 8MP.

Re: The English Landscape...

Firstly the picture, it's really nice and I love the way the photo is colour banded from top to bottom, this really defines the different areas of the image, really nice, well done.

Phil, I have the same problem as you, I drive over a motorway bridge, only 50 meters long, every morning, the view from the bridge is of a small harbour full of boats, in the morning the water is often so still it acts like a big mirror, one day I am gonna 'break down' on that bridge

All the best,
Alan.
