Re: A glorious day for a wedding - October 11th

Saw the first photo and thought poor girl she has wasted away.
I have to say I do like some of the photos and others I am not too sure about. For example picture 20 taken outside in the evening captures the moment excellently but no 7 concentrates on the flowers, I would have gone for more of the classic style of the person holding the flowers infront to capture not only the flowers but the person as well.

Just my thoughts on 2 of the pictures,as I said some are really good but others maybe composition and depth of field could be improved on as most were shot around f2.8. There are times when something with a greater DOP has more impact.

Hope you don't mind my thoughts on your photos.

No doubt my photos would have been a lot worse but I wouldn't do weddings anyway.

Re: A glorious day for a wedding - October 11th

Not at all - but remember you're seeing just 25 of 245 shots here. No.7 for example is using depth of field specifically to isolate the flowers and hint at the scene beyond. Another shot in that sequence, unseen here, pulls backs to focus on the bride and the chauffeur to her right....

I deliberately shoot around f1.8-f4 - that's the style I want and I only go beyond that for the (again unseen) group shots. I'm not interested in the classic style - that's not why people book me. The idea of shooting everything sharp front to back is something I actively avoid.

I'm not sure the composition is weak though.

Radiohead

I can see where your comming from, I can only comment on the photos you have posted.

Yes you do have an individual style , maybe its not to everyones taste but if it were, everyone would take the same type of photo.

As I have said elsewhere, Instead of just saying great photo -excellent shots -well done etc. I prefer to give my own thoughts good or bad, that way members know where I am at.

Bazza are you mad

RH has a great style, he trully captures the whole feel for the wedding, and what it is really about , two people, not Aunt Fanny in a ghastly dress and hat all lined up , next to a cousin you hardly see, all standing in a group next to a relative they hate, doing fake smiles.

Wedding photos should capture the day as it happened, not big groups of people plonked outside looking uncomfortable and fake. Classic wedding photography as you call it, is boring and captures none of the real wedding IMO.

No 13 is a magical picture, if I had to choose one pic that sums up a wedding and the feelings that surround it, this would be it.

RH, I love your work, and you have style by the bucketload,

Do you need an assistant? xxx
