Re: Reflection trials.

Nice work, good environmental portraits.

#2 doesn't quite work for me, think the reflected light is just a little too strong for my taste.

Re: Reflection trials.

Not that I do much of this I'd be inclined to agree with Steven.

The lighting in number 2 looks a bit artificial. It's very much from underneath and doesn't seem in keeping with the weather.

Number 1 is spot on. The light on the guys face has a nice warm 'sunset' feel to it and the direction matches the lighting on the slopes behind him.

Number 3 works well, 4 and 5 look like the reflector is doing less ?

Re: Reflection trials.

Haha, cheers for the feedback. As for four & five, I accidentally shot with the wrong white balance so I've had to pull the yellow/orange out else it look over contrasted.

So I guess I've kind of defeated the idea as regards to colour.

Re: Reflection trials.

Some good ideas in there - certainly good for a first try, although agree with most of the comments above to an extent. Out of the lot - I think 3 works the most.

Re: Reflection trials.

Dan - you can see the reflector is working - and is lifting the catchlights in his eyes, but try and remember less is more - the reflector should be used to lift the light and give it balance, not create it to the point it is quite over-powering; as in this case. Just hold it off slightly further and think about the angle to keep the artificial reflecting light mimic the direction of the natural light.
