Sigma AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro - AF on d40x?

Sigma AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro Nikon Fit Lens

Does any lens that has the AF in the title autofocus on my nikon d40x?

Sorry to be soooooooooooo thick but as I am buying on line I dont want to make a mistake and buy the wrong lens.

For example the one above will auto focus is that right?

I have a DG 28-300 Sigma macro lens and it has no AF mark but it does. Must say I find the marks on lens very difficult too, in honesty only really understand the aperture markings and, I think, the focal distance, wonder if one of the forum members would like to do some explaining for us.

That would be great for someone to explain what the letters mean when buying a lens

If you mean this one: http://www.jessops.com/Store/s73537/...y=False&comp=n then yes.

However, it's not the same one that FB posted in the other thread as that one is f2.8. Also, it does not have VR.

I have the APO version of the same lens (Canon fit)

it will AF on your camera body but I would recommend the APO version opposed to the Std version. The APO version will give you lossless edging at high zoom and will remove that purple fringing (chromatic aberration) found on cheaper quality lenses. The non-APO version is not worth it for the few extra pounds saved.

I would agree with Jack, the APO version is a superior piece of glass and if you can push the boat out just a bit more you will certainly appreciate the better images from the APO.

The APO version has a different type of glass used in the lens that focuses the three primary colours at the same focusing plane. With lesser glass the three colours focus at slightly different planes and gives the fringing that Jack referred to. It is more noticeable at longer focal lengths hence why you don't see wide angle lens with APO.
