Parrots

There were Parrots everywhere! I drove to the Portland Zoo yesterday specifically to visit the Lorikeet Landing. The Lorikeet is slender with a long tapering tail, the Rainbow being the most popular. Lories are stockier with squared-off tails with the Chattering Lory being the most popular.

All of the Lorinae family are beautiful by most people’s standards. Their bright cheery personality matches their colorful feathers. If you can deal with the mess they make, you will be hard pressed to find a more colorful bird than the Rainbow Lory.

Re: Parrots

Some amazing colours there Bob and you've done well shooting in what looks like pretty harsh strong light.

Not sure if it's my screen but is there a strange diagonal line effect in the background on the first two shots ? Number 3 looks like you've apllied some sort of blurr or difuse glow as those lines have gone.

That diagonal line effect is the wire mesh cage Phil. I tried hard to blur it out not only with a very shallow depth of field but using the blur tool in Photoshop. The sky was overcast yesterday so the lighting was muted, I would never have been able to get the detail in the feathers or eye in strong sunlight.
