Sony Alpha 200

I am still searching for the right camera, I had narrowed it down to the 400d or the D40x, though I had a friend(not relieible) reccomend the Sony Alpha 200, I have never heard of this one so was wondering if anyone knew anything about it, such as online reviews or tests.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Sony Alpha 200

Not sure about the Sony but you'll find opinions are split regarding the 400D or the D40X.

I'd probably go with the Nikon
Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D

Re: Sony Alpha 200

The Sony Alpha 200 is an improved version of the A100 - it has anti-shake built in unlike the nikon or canons mentioned. It's not out yet tho, but still worth keeping an eye out for...

Re: Sony Alpha 200

Nikon or Canons are best option....

Sony make TV's - not cameras

I think they make good point and shoot cameras - but at the moment - not sure if their DSLR's are up to the standard of Canon's and Nikon's... (Or Olympus for that matter)

Re: Sony Alpha 200

Is that why Nikon use their chips then?

Give them a few years - I think they will come out with some great stuff. Competition is very good for us lot the consumers, as they all compete to get our trade they add more stuff and try to get cheaper at the same time

Re: Sony Alpha 200

The sony cameras are actually competing well against the big boys and all the reviews i have read all indicate they are brilliant cameras, scoring just has highly as Nikon and Canon.

I feel the only drawback would be lens choice. Im not sure if there is a large market for sony lens? If your planning on buying a camera that will grow with you. idcertainly look into this.

Choosing between the D40 and the 400D is like choosing between chocolate and vinalla ice cream - they are both equally as good and have same same ingrediants. One just suits your tastes more

Go out and try a few and see what feels good in your hands and read lots of reviews

Agree with K. I'm actually quite keen on the Sony's they seem to be getting better and better - I think next year will be a big year for them.

Re: Sony Alpha 200

Well I have found out the probable price, slightly dearer than the 400d, but hopefully the 400d may drop when its released.

Re: Sony Alpha 200

That normally happens - a new model will normally have a knock on effect on the old model...

Wonder what the 450 will be furnished with... Maybe it's worth waiting to see the comparative features to make a decision as to which is best for you?
