A few more birds from today

Just a handful of images from today, images better viewed in full screen

GC Grebe

Hybrid Greylag

Think this is a Red crested Pochard and not just a Pochard, body feathers look wrong colour just to be a normal Pochard.

Just a Chaffinch

Re: A few more birds from today

Red Crested Pochard is nice

One thing that really helps bird photos (though it's not always possible of course) - is to make sure there's nice light on the face, giving the eye a highlight - does wonders in nearly all cases! You have this in the first shot of the goose, and the shot of the RC Pochard, but not in the others

Super mix.

I've a couple of Great Crested Grebe shots in my camera. Not sure how good they are yet though.

Re: A few more birds from today

As you might gather from my avatar im rather fond of Great-crested grebes, your goose is a cross between Greylag and Barnacle geese i think.

Your Red -crested pochard may be an escape or an true migrant, finally the Chaffinch a much under appreciated bird, so colourful.

A nice set, looks like you have an interesting lake to visit.

Re: A few more birds from today

Thanks for the tip Laura. I had not done much with these images other than crop them, the Chaff was under a lot of cover and quite distant so could not get good light on his eye. The 2nd Hybrid Greylag image needs tweaking really to highlight around eyes. Shame the images are small on here, detail on the greylag and the RC Pochard is very good when cropped

Thank you too Cliff, Phil and Brian

Brian, could well be a hybrid with a barnacle, the makings on the head seem to match Not sure on the Pocard, never know whether their escapees or migrants. Lots of Lakes and Reservoirs around in Herts Brian, plenty to choose from

I am never happy with my Grebe shots Phil, this is one of the better ones but i do not think perfect.

I`ll do a tighter crop on the RC Pochard. Showing his red eye better Cliff
