I'm an experienced photographer that decided to buy the D40X last Christmas. I've had no problems with the camera and love the results.
Let me try and draw a comparison with another of my passions, motorcycles. If you were a beginner biker would you buy a simple, smaller cc bike so that you could feel comfortable learning to ride or would you buy an expensive high performance machine that you'd be scared to ride and worried about laying down?
The D40 & D40X are excellent photographic tools that allow for filters & acccesories that can add years of enjoyment. Or, you can but a D3 body and, by comparison, mortgage the house.
I'm not slamming the D3 for those ready to pounce.
