For the first time...

...I was trying to make same photos in homemade studio. Lightning was very bad, only one regular light, so I have to do something with that.

Well, my first "studio" shots... What do you think... C&C...

Re: For the first time...

For a first effort and considering you don't have the proper lighting, its not a bad attempt. I would if I were you pay attention to shadows, they can make or ruin a picture.

I do think that if that is the type of photography you are interested in, then it would pay to invest in even a cheap studio lighting kit to start with.

Re: For the first time...

Wow - I'm very impressed, especially with the first two. Well done Tullika!

Love the smile on number 3, but would have preffered the backdrop to be further away.

In 2, perhaps a little more breathing room at the top could have be a little better?

But overall great shots!

Re: For the first time...

I like the way the second shot goes from black on the one side to white on the other, makes for an interesting effect and you have still manages to keep the model soft and flattering, well done.

Re: For the first time...

My comments echo those of Azz's.

I like the hard shadowing effect that comes from limited lighting. I particularly like picture 1. The lighting, composition, pose, crispness, etc. It's a very good image. Picture 2 is also good but is neither crisp or soft - not that that is a bad thing, but it leaves me undecided. I'm not keen on image 3 - the pose, focus, composition and the positioning of the flower dont really work too well.

I do think that you have made a great attempt at 'studio' photography - well done.

Can I add that I think I would have preferred your friend totally au natural - I think pregnancy is all about celebrating the female body. When I was viewing these I couldnt help but thinking, she would look totally amazing, and the pictures would have IMHO far more impact if she was strategically topless.

Nevertheless, great work

Re: For the first time...

Tullika the hard shadows work so well , with pregnant ladies, it puts the emphasis on the curves of the body. I really am impressed and I love them.
I have been studying this type of photography, as Maternity is one area I would love to do some work in, and you have really got it spot on, in Number one.

Agree with Jack, pregnant women should be celebrated in their curviness, and I am sure your friend will cherish these pictures forever. She looks beautiful.

I am a little envious too, as I still have to find someone, who is willing to pose for me

Re: For the first time...

Thank you all for those great advices. At first I was completely lost. Every day, I am more interested in that kind of photography.
Those pictures were taken at model's home, so we only have white walls, some red bed cover and lamp with economical bulb. So, next think, conected to photography, I have to buy, is Canon 580 ex!

She is very happy for those photos. I decided, that I will print a book for her, with story and her pregnancy photos.

On the other side, I am very lucky, that she is ready to pose for me.

Re: For the first time...

I really like them.

I'm don't have any eperience with lighting but for me the 'dark' lighting works really well.

Number 2 is my favourite. She looks really relaxed and like the way it blends into total darkness.
