Which lens is your favourite?

Which lens in your kit is your favorite? I find the one I prefer is the Nikon 24-120mm VR lens. Now you might ask why, well it has a good general range to work with and not to heavy, infact I think it compliments the Nikon D300 very well.

So which lens and why?

Re: Which lens is your favourite?

I guess my favourite lens just now would be the Sigma 10-20mm. I've not had the chance to do much in the way of landscapes since I got it but from what I've seen so far I'm certainly chomping at the bit to get out there.

The one lens I wouldn't be without is the Canon 17-85mm Image Stabilised lens. It's a nice range for a 'walkabout' lens and 17mm is wide enough for adding a little more impact without having to change to a wide angle lens.
Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D

Re: Which lens is your favourite?

Im loving my Sigma 24-70mm. The quality is fantastic for what it is although too soft for my liking wide open. Hopefully in the coming months ill be able to upgrade t the Nikkor version! WOO!

Re: Which lens is your favourite?

At the moment it is my Zuiko 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 ED , it is a great general purpose lens, and I would be lost without it, awesome for landscapes, quirky portraits, and best of all it is compact so good to use all day

It maybe the kit lens, but the quality is very good

Re: Which lens is your favourite?

I've acquired a few new ones in a short space of time just yesterday getting a Tamron 17-35 which I can see being a fave. Seems sharp and but maybe a little short on range. Funnily enough my favourite to use, but maybe quite limited in application is my nifty fifty. I have this mental connection to it that it is likely the sharpest of all my others although I have no proof! I shot some stuff at work yesterday afternoon in low light almost wide open and it looks good. Would post them here but it's work and no one bothers anyway so I not posting currently.

Bazza when I was in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago I had a 24-120 on loan and I really liked it. Maybe not quite the sharpest lens but good walkaround and very convenient focal lengths plus VR. DC, the Sigma 24-70 is well regarded and exactly as you said, maybe a little soft at f2.8. Next time we see your nudie bits ( ) lets see your biceps! I'm a bloke and I thought it was a bit hefty to lug around, but not as bad as the Nikon 17-55. Fun lens, then yes, the 10-20 is great fun and looks good on the camera too. Bugger all use as a serious lens for true straights but it is the most fun in the pack. Moonie, c'mon babe, your playing with the Nikon crew here (apart from Phil who cross dresses! ), get over and join us!

Re: Which lens is your favourite?

My favourite is the one that happens to be on the camera and is right for the shot I am about to take. Hate those inappropriate lens that mount your camera seemingly uninvited and are totally unsuitable for the shot that has just presented it's self.

Now if you ask which I would not sell I would say the Bigma, 105mm macro, 50mm 1.4 and the 28-80mm I have just rediscovered. But when I am using it I also love the 100-300mm.

Right, would seem for me it is horses for courses, it is the appropriate lens.
