Shepherd

I asked this shepherd if I could photograph him today. He liked the camera.

Re: Shepherd

Not sure about the last one, I think the first two capture him better - but the first one is my favourite - though the shep look a little blown along their backs? But I think these are lovely images, and you get a real sense of the heat!

Re: Shepherd

I really like them all, I really like the first two, but my fave is the last, love the DoF, and the bright blue with the yellow. Laura's right you get a sense of the heat.

I see characters about, and I am dying to ask if I can take their pic , but worry if they will think I am crazy Do you ever get anybody say no way?

Same - I tried to do photos of one of the sessions when I first ogt my camera - a load of people we know too... and one of them got very nasty with me over it - so I had to stop - left a bad taste in my mouth, so I've not bothered since, it's something I feel very uncomfortable about

There is a guy who sits in a rocking chair on his porch near a trail I use, and I am dying to ask him, he even has a rusty beat up truck, that I would love to photograph, but it would be weird if he said no

He just looks a real character, so I really want to try, even though I do need a lot more portrait practice.

Re: Shepherd

I think these look to be good pictures from colour and composition but they have an effect that seems to be present on quite a lot of stuff that I am seeing from you JR. They look like they are over-sharpened, very harsh and contrasty. As no one else has mentioned it I am wondering if you are doing something with your pictures that seems to affect my monitor? It runs at high res 1920x1200 at 17inch? Doesn't seem to be present on other pictures I am looking at on the site, and of the three above the first two in horizontal format are severley affected but not the last vertical format?

Re: Shepherd

I really like the composition of these shots and they speak loud and clear of the area. The first two look very grainy on my monitor and I am not sure about the chap looking out of the shot in the last, although I think it would be OK if his face was better lit, that it is not always possible in the field you have to shot with what you have available.

I too find it hard, no impossible to ask someone if I can take a shot unless they are doing something that could be called a public display.

I was wondering this about my monitor too as it is rather rubbish and I've actually not been able to get a good view of JR's recent photo's especially with people in them. I am almost certain that it is my monitor though and nothing to do with the shots.

Re: Shepherd

Thanks for the feedback - I'm looking at them from another computer - and YES, they look bloody awful!

They look good on my home pc and laptop, and work pc too - and printed out. I will check to see if it is anything to do with resolution/settings/colour profile, etc...

In the meantime - bear with me, or if you know of a solution please do share your thoughts. Thanks

No - I dont have a problem asking people to be photographed - I always respect their wishes and reward them where possible. That generally means sending them a picture/print, etc... Some people will actually pose as you ask.... its all about having the confidence to ask, and then building immediate rapport, and being respectful and polite.
