Yosemite Valley

Hi folks

Here are a few snaps from a recent trip to Yosemite Valley in California.

I didn't have my tripod with me ( Cardinal Sin ) so they really are just snaps, although I managed to balance the camera on the roof of the car for the last few night shots.

1. Yosemite Valley

2. Half Dome

3. Half Dome Sunset

4. Doff of the cap to Ansel Adams

5. Dead tree / Half Dome

6. Rock pile / Half Dome

7. Wood / Half Dome

8. Yosemite Falls

In these last 2 shots of El Capitan, near the very top of the cliff face you can see two little lights. These were actually from some climbers who had been on the mountain for a few days and had finally reached the top. We watched them for about half an hour before we moved on, although all we could see were the two tiny lights 3000 feet above us. It was about 01:00 in the morning.

9. El Capitan 01

10. El Capitan 02

Thanks for looking

MD

Re: Yosemite Valley

The starry sky above the mountains are so cool. What kind of shutter speed were you sing on those?

I also really like ones where you played with depth of field.

Re: Yosemite Valley

Now I love those photos except no 4. Apart from the photographic skills they really show what the area is truely like. Those are the type of photos I would like to see if I was contemplating visiting the area. A huge from me

Thanks Azz...and sorry I haven't been around for a while, although I do now have a zillion images burning a hole in my D drive so don't be surprised if I share some of them with you

That's ok BC...each to there own I'm glad you liked number 8, although I'm really pushing my wee camera to it's absolute limits with these night shots, but I have just downloaded a firmware update which is supposed to handle noise levels better when shot at high ISO, so I'll be giving it a go pretty soon.

Thanks LM. I always shoot my night skies on BULB mode, always with a remote trigger and USUALLY with a tripod . The long exposure is usually around the 30 second mark. Any longer and you get noticeable star trails.

Glad you liked some of the others too.

Thanks for that Bazza, really glad you like them... although here's the thing...before I went, I'd looked at so many photos of Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls and the Giant Sequoias in order to prepare myself for the trip, but none of these...and none of the 400 photos I took, will ever convey just how utterly huge, and utterly mesmerizing this place really is when you actually see it with your own eyes.
We went to the Grand Canyon not long after this, and I have to say...as cool as it was, it wasn't a patch on Yosemite Valley.

Thanks Manny...and don't worry about that, I have well over 100 black and white images from Yosemite. I visited the Ansel Adams museum / gallery they had set up there, and was truely inspired to shoot a whole chunk in black & white.

Re: Yosemite Valley

Really nice series, especially the doff of yer cap at Mr Ansel, love it. 3 and 4, for me, love the quality of light in the third shot.

Really like the DoF in 6, but the third is my absolute fave.
