Re: Subject of the week 31 - Benches - Is now open

Yesterday evening I sanded our two garden benches down and gave them a going over with teak oil.

Might manage a wee picture tomorrow LOL

Re: Subject of the week 31 - Benches - Is now open

did they have paint on them before phil? Ours has, and i wouldnt mind stripping it down and having a more natural looking colour than the greeny/blue colour it is atm.

I could unbolt all the bits of wood and use the belt sander on them... and maybe i'll make my first bench post.!

No they were never painted - they are just hard wood b&q type benches. Most people would probably stain them but a good annual rub all over with a cloth soaked in teak oil protects them and is quick to do. They've been a bit neglected for a few years though so a quick rub down with sandpaper was just to get some of the crap off first.
