Re: Nikon D700 - It's Official!

Go for it KK!! It will be perfect for portrait work

As I like shooting wildlife, I think I'll stick with the cropped sensor - will save me a bomb on lenses!!

Me too, but Iīd still think about the D700. Because I have just read, that the camera is able to switch between DX and FX modes and also automatically switches into DX (cropped) mode, if you put on DX lens.

So no major problem with lenses, thatīs why I like it!

Nikon 18-70mm f/3,5

That IS a nice touch! But then do you get less MP? How would the IQ compare to the same lens then on say a D300?

Re: Nikon D700 - It's Official!

I assume that the DX mode will be the same as the D3 which means its 6mp in Dx mode.

I personally would pay the extra and get a D3 or hold on for the D3X, I don't think the D700 offers enough over the D300 for the extra grand or so it will cost. Rather pay the extra and get the D3 with its extra processing power and faster shooting rate.

Re: Nikon D700 - It's Official!

Have looked down the list of features on the D700 I was wondering how many of them most would actually use? My guess is that it is more for the professional photographer doing studio work with models for glossy mags etc. For most it would take half a day just on the settings without actually taking a picture.

Don't get me wrong for those that must have the latest then fine but Azz is happy with his D300 and me with my D200 at the moment and I think this would be true for people like us.

Nothing wrong with being happy with whatever gear we have right now. But as well, nothing wrong with discussing about the new wonders of Nikon

For me personally, I donīt have feeling that I have outgrown my D200 and for the moment, I donīt have the need to exchange it even for the D300, let alone for something else. When I have that nudging feeling, that the camera is starting to limit me in my efforts (like I had few years ago with my D70), then I will upgrade.

Re: Nikon D700 - It's Official!

Yep - nothing wrong with pondering what we might like or one day get

If somone is looking to upgrade to a new body and the D700 is within budget, it makes a lot of sense - if you want full frame the D700 is the natural step-up, if you don't the D300 is.

Personally I fell the D300 is overkill for me! I would have been more than happy for a D80 replacement, but as there was no sign of one (and still none!) I went for the D300 as I wanted an anti dust device (along with my min requirement of more manual controls) in my next camera. It didn't work out that much more for me than the Canon 40D (as I would have had to buy new lens anyway) hence it was the perfect choice for me

Maybe when I am as good a photographer as Mirka and some of you guys I might feel I want the D700 or D3 more but I do love drooling over it in the meantime
