Pat in a plane

I took this one of my grandson at a fun park recently.

I think I have overdone the vignette. I was trying to get the effect that Moonstone achieves with the almost trademark darkened edges on her images, but clearly I need some help in achieving it.

Looks good Gav - the only thing I don't really like is the outer border/frame, I don't think it needs the vignette either

Lovely picture although I'm not so sure you need the vignette.

That aside - did you do it manually or did you had a circular graduated overlay ?

Picture might benefit from a crop to remove the pole as i am sure we are all generally jouined the the young whippersnappers face?

It's a bit dark, not sure about circular vignette Phil, I can see a distinct darkened rectangle that follows the borders but approx. 25% in.

I added the vignette by setting an inner frame on a second layer with a large % feathering and filled it with black then adjusted the opacity to suit.

Didn't really work did it.

Gav, I have only just noticed this, to make the vignette work , it is best to make the colours more vintage and retro first and then apply a light vignette.That is how I get my vintagey look.

I love this shot, it is fab,I think it would look even better, in a plainer frame of black.

Moonie, I think he was hoping for a heads up how to achieve that? to be honest your PP skills are better than mine so I'm in no posotion to advice how to do it

Moonie if you would like to share your technique I would be a willing pupil. I am not sure what you mean by 'retro' or 'vintage'.

Could be worth having a look around for tutorials Gav. There are quite a few on different websites and cover discs with magazines, even on youtube.

This is a general point NOT aimed at Moonie or anyone here, but you will find on some websites people who don't want to give away their signature style as it gives their pictures a uniqueness. There are numerous examples of that where I have seen people just give generalised answers or don't answer those requests. Many pictures including Moonies and mine sometimes are processed using a combination of Lightoom and Photoshop. Vignettes are achieved in a variety of ways, but the simplest is just playing with the dodge and burn tools.
