Thanks Ken. Here is a screen grab of the RAW image loaded into Canon DPP RAW processing software without any pp at all, just straight out the camera.
As you can see there is very little change from the posted jpg.

Re: Balvaird Castle

Grant I'm honoured you have gone to so much trouble

Having looked at this several times now I think it's the setting in which the castle is built, it's so Barren... then there is this big castle.

On another matter if I may Grant? I notice from your RAW screen grab some vignetting. Did you have a filter fitted or was the lens wide open? Only I'm yet to get a wide zoom for my Canon full frame and I'm considering the 17-40L and would value your thoughts.

PS sorry to high-jack

Regards, Ken

Re: Balvaird Castle

No trouble at all Ken.

I had 3 filters on for this 13 second exposure including Polarisor, 6 stop ND and a 0.3 GND
shot at 20mm. Two filters are fine and only very slight at 17mm. Always more vignetting with 3 filters but usually easy to get rid of in Canon's DPP RAW software. You can also buy low profile filters that help minimise vignetting.

Re: Balvaird Castle

Forgot to add about the Canon 17-40mm f4.0 L lens. It is probably Canon's best wide-angle zoom lens unless you need faster (f2.8) and much heavier, 16-35mm -for the same IQ.

Google for some reviews Ken and you will see it is highly rated on most review websites.

Sorry for taking this of topic Grant.

Thanks for your thoughts on this lens, I have done some research and I personally don't think the one stop advantage of the 16-35L is going to be significant for me. From what I've read the 17-40L is a very good lens and would fill that gap in my focal length range nicely.
