Chaffinch in flight

Captured this shot of a hovering Chaffinch today at Lochwinnoch RSPB.
Just about a full frame capture as only a smidgen was cropped.

f9.0, 1/2500 sec, ISO 640

You're not fooling me DJ - you've cloned out his parallel bars.

Hat's off though - Great Capture

I guess it was very sunny but off the top of my head I would have thought you'd have to go higher than ISO640 to use 1/2500 at f9

Very nice! Must have been incredible sunlight! I don't even know what that looks like! even on a very sunny day I'm lucky if I can get much more than 1/1000th at ISO 500! (and wide open at that!)

Thanks. Yes, it was lovely light at 3.20 when I took this shot, and it was great to have the shutter speed and aperture combination I wanted while keeping the ISO below 800.

This is a great capture and one I have a particular interest in, as I have a similar shot of a Great-tit in flight.

It was as well the bird was hovering, as these blighters can move extremely fast when they want to. You have done exceptionally well to get the subject as sharp as you have at 400mm. Very well done.
