Few from today...do they work?

Was out and about today... let me know what you think, constructive comment and critique always welcome...

Was a 40's re-enactment event. I'm not really trying to get an authentic look, but just something in PP that befits the subject matter. I don't set out to flatter, but to bring out some character in the people and the picture, or create interest..

Re: Few from today...do they work?

Well at least you are interested, shame about the usual lack of feedback

I just play with the saturation, contrast, this time added a small amount of diffuse glow on the latter picture... I have a few settings I have picked up from one or two books that I usually apply in Lightroom and then tweak in CS3.

Re: Few from today...do they work?

Yes the feedback is a bit duff.......but hey ho..

pp

i have bought ''the bible of photoshop 7'

It came yesterday and I am well excited I want to learn learn learn.

It was hard finding a book that just concentrated on ps7....but seek and you shall find...lol

Now lightroom is another story I have it ......but sadly cannot get to grips with it.........

and I wish I could turn off the fact that it auto starts up when I put in the memory card........aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so annoying.

Re: Few from today...do they work?

Work well for me, the diffuse adds that blow to the whites old stuff has. Great control of the backgrounds these events are hard to get good backgrounds at.

#3 for me, looks a total character!

Re: Few from today...do they work?

Thanks both. SK, when taking these pictures at these sorts of events i am trying to scan for the detail. You see people in modern glasses, watches, mobile phones...and then the background, there are always people in modern clothes or holding a camcorder or somthing like that. I don't set out to give it a completely authentic look, rather the picture has to look about right, but all i think about with the PP is giving it a bit of tone and style broadly along the right lines and more sort of befitting the mood.

Appreciate the feedback, really. If there is no feedback then those of us that post, why bother.

Re: Few from today...do they work?

BC, nice set of photo's. Personally I tend towards more of a black and white conversion as opposed to the sepia, I think it would be more 40's. Having said that, the most believable for me is #4, looks quite authentic 40's colour reproduction and the characters look great.
