Pond Flower
This flower was growing in one of the ponds on a local nature reserve, I've never seen one before, can anyone identify it please.

I believe it is Purple Loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria

Hi Gaz,
My first thought was Purple Loosestrife but I then discounted it because this pond was constructed quite recently and I could not accept that such an invasive plant would have been introduced deliberately. (Its the only plant on the reserve.). However,it could be one of the modern garden cultivars which are supposed to be sterile. The planting of Lythrum salicaria is banned in many states in the USA just because it so invasive.
