Yellow Crowned Night Heron?
I thought this was a young Yellow Crowned Night Heron..
And this one I also think is a mature Yellow Crowned Night Heron
Funny that I have seen this bird just 3 times in the 4 years I have been looking for water birds. I did see one right by my car once, so close I could not get a photo and it was raining very heavily...all these sightings in the same area..but then it is the only area where I do find water birds...a canal that is salty, at least it responds to the tides, even though several miles from the Gulf. the second one is a yellow crowned night heron. not sure about the first, only get to see them on vacations to florida.

I would agree with your second ID, but the bill on the first seems different, longer and slimmer, perhaps a Green Heron juvenile, im afraid ive never been abroad so not sure what Herons are in your area.

Basically what Brian said - it could be a juvenile YCNH - but it's hard to be sure.
