What is a good turn around time for proofs?

Okay. you have done your portrait session, it was all fabulous, now what is an acceptable turn around time for viewable proofs, either online or printed?

How days/weeks do you say to clients? Also, do you offer a quick proof service, where they pay extra to have viewable proofs within a few days?

Re: What is a good turn around time for proofs?

I give my client a 2 week turnaround for proofs.. weddings can take a little longer (usually double/triple the photographs). I set them up a username and password and they can see some proofs the next day and then i inform them once all have been uploaded. I try and limit my portrait sessions to 50 photographs.

Thanks Sammy

Do you retouch the faces, let's say a client has a spot, would you automatically remove it, even if they hadn't ask you to? and all retouching and post processing is included in the session price?

Sorry for all the questions but I am genuinely interested

Re: What is a good turn around time for proofs?

I do a quick brush up, but not to the full extent of the final image... i used to retouch everything, but now its just a waste of time if they don't buy any if the images. Any of my sports photography (bikes/dogs) don't get retouched and go straight up on the gallery the following day .

Like Sam says, 2 weeks is a good starting point. You dont want to go the other way where my friends waited 6 months to see their wedding proofs!!!

Re: What is a good turn around time for proofs?

Thanks

Makes sense Sammy, pointless retouching up pics that aren't sold but make them presentable. The dogs are gorgeous anyway, they don't need retouching

KK- that is inexcusable to have to wait six months, what was the photographers excuse?

Seems two weeks is good for portraits, obviously I expect a big wedding may take a little longer? Especially if you have several, but six months is a joke.

Thank you for the input

Re: What is a good turn around time for proofs?

Portraits - two to three weeks

Weddings - four to six weeks

This is what I tell the clients [to cover myself for sickness, family emergency, busy periods ect]

I have always delivered in PORTRAITS about a week

WEDDINGS about two weeks

then the customer is happy I have delivered fast.
