Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

Really did not expect anyone to still be on 28 kbs, may have to re-asses the webs - thought I was considerate working to 56kbs, admit of late I have even been pushing that limit a bit too.

Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

Sorry to give you all an excuse to drag this even further off topic.

No offence taken to any comments, all decent and proper.

The reason we are still on Dialup is that we are at the end of 7 miles of multi- jointed cable with a DAX machine installed somewhere along its length.

BT were out this week on yet another repair and said we should be able to achieve 500kbs if they can locate and remove the DAX, BUT, they don't know where it is !!!!
We sometimes get 44.2 kbs. WoW

As Jack said my fells will give a spirit level some work and make a great subject for any photographer.

Going back on topic, once the Broadband revolution arrives on top of my mountain, please feel free to offer comments and criticism on my photos.

Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

You poor thing, we had to go round the village and get a list of signatures in order to get broadband but if you are not in a village then you are not going to be able to push for some attention at all. Think we had to have 200 people say they wanted and would use broadband and they would upgrade the local station so we could have it. Mind you it is very slow but nothing like as slow as yours is.

Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

Well my Vodafone mobile broadband is an add on to my contract, 500Mb a month (they say unlimited but then say 500mb!) but that gives me 450kbs at 7.50. Plug my C902 into laptop and it works almost anywhere. I did have 3 mobile broadband before but that had patchy reception whereas Vodafone seems to give better but not perfect coverage. It would be an option. Have 8mb broadband at home.

Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

That's a good idea - I never stopped to think about mobile broadband. Are the packages just as cheap as normal broadband these days BC?

Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

Hi Azz, maybe you don't get as fast or as much data as home broadband but it's a lot cheaper than just a couple of years ago. You can sign up to 3 on PAYG at around a tenner a month and get 1Gb. 3Gb for £15. I found their service a bit patchy but fast when it was in a good reception area. As my phone is on Vodafone I decided to try their data package, at £7.50 a month as an add on to my contract. It gives 500Mb/month and I get around 460kps. It's enough for me as I have broadband at home too. I find generally Vodafone have good coverage but in one place I have to go regularly the signal is almost non-existant in the whole complex. I have a Sony Ericsson C902, it's a 3.5G phone and it works perfectly as a data modem with my laptop. You can browse on it but it's too fiddly. Definately recommend data on the move if you need it.

Re: Can I abdicate from the USA?

Hmmmm, guess what???

We have no mobile network here either. We don't even show up on SatNav. Nothing, blank screen.

It has many advantages, but makes posting pics on forums impossible.
