Jols

I did say they are the type you have to stand directly in front of the camera to use which is why I don't recommend them. They don't work standing behind the camera.
Moonstone does get around it somewhat by using it to trigger a timer on the camera. The problem is doing it this way is for example, trying to get a picture of a bird on a feeder, by the time you press the remote and the timer on the camera works the bird has gone, thats if you havn't already scared it off by your presence.

That is what a wireless remote is generally used for, getting a picture of something that by any other means would be impossible to get, especially wildlife pictures.

I have taken pictures of birds on a feeder less than a meter away, something that is nigh impossible with the type of wireless remote Moonstone has.

Any other type of picture can be taken with the timer device on the camera anyway and no need for a wireless remote.

Re: Remotes - anyone use them?

Hi Bazza

My remote can release the shutter immediately, same as if I was pressing it myself, or I can use a delay. Both work with my remote, so I can use it for wildlife shots etc, just haven't yet as my tripod is rubbish. I don't think I explained it very well to Jols

Jols i can use my remote for instant shots or delayed shots.

The point is you have to be infront of the camera for it to work. Try standing 18ft behind the camera and see if it works then.

Re: Remotes - anyone use them?

But Bazza if I was behind the camera I would just press the timer delay myselfand then scuttle away

Re: Remotes - anyone use them?

The one that I have will accept work up to 30/40 ft from behind the camera. your type is "in for red"? which works only in direct line of beam, the others actually work by radio beam. thats the difference.

Re: Remotes - anyone use them?

Jols

You need to be behind and away from the camera to get close up wildlife shots, its that simple. A radio beam wireless remote allows you to go anywhere away from the camera, mine goes up to about 33ft, thereby enabling you not to scare away birds etc. If I could only show you with a pratical demonstration you would see what I am getting at.

I can sit in my office with the camera that distance away with the camera set up less than a meter away from a feeder and take a picture instantly, thereby not scaring the birds away
