Pike's Place Street Singer

While in Seattle last week Warren & I took in some local color on Pike's Place, an open market with hundreds of small specialty shops. I took the time to snap a shop of a street muscian, one of many, that sing their hearts out for donations thrown in their guitar case. I contributed after finishing the shot.

Re: Pike's Place Street Singer

Good shot Bob, although I would have liked the background to be thrown more out of focus as it's a little 'busy' and draws your eye away from the singer.

Still a nice shot though.

Although I normally would have agreed with you in this particular case I wanted everything sharp as a tack. The reason is the place itself. Its quaint brick road, the mom & pop stores that line the street, & the hill shown in the background all go to identify the place, Pike's Place. Blur the background and all that's left is an ugly guy strumming a guitar. LOL

Fair comment Bob, I thought that it might be your intention to have the background in focus.

As the guy is rather ugly can't you blur him instead?

Re: Pike's Place Street Singer

The "blur the background fad is just that, a fad. When I composed the shot the singer's background was sharp, not out of focus. Have you ever seen a Norman Rockwell painting with a blurred background?

Re: Pike's Place Street Singer

Not sure about this one Bob - I think it's got definite potential - however, I do think the background is too... competitive, and also, the chap looks a little superimposed - perhaps due to the angle? Not sure why though.

Having said that, it's a good attempt, I find this sort of thing quite hard to do, mainly because I can't muster the courage - so well done!

Re: Pike's Place Street Singer

He may look superimposed because I had to use fill flash. The background brightness demanded it.
