Quick trip to town...on the street

Ok, these are not stunners, but just a trip into town to look for a new jacket and took the Canon G11 compact, just in case. It's nice and light, nice and quiet, but there is a slight lag when you press the button which is not something you really want for street work. The viewfinder is pokey and you can't be sure of the focus point. However, it is a nice little camera and less noticeable than an SLR... makes you feel you are using a rangefinder like a Leica of old!

Anyway, some shots around the town today... you can C&C them, I'm not putting them up as individual pics that stand as flawless, just as a little set from a couple of hours out...

1) The Musician

2) Healthy Living

3) A quiet pint

4) Taking five minutes out

5) Bah!

Yes, this one was posted in another thread, spouiled by the refection on the specs... but just here as i got it in the same little trip.

As always C&C if you wish. Even better grab your camera and get out into town and post up here...

Re: Quick trip to town...on the street

Great set BC - that second one is just awesome! Really love that. The third I feel is the weakest, I don't think the chap stands out quite enough from the sandwichboard. I like the intense stare in number 4. Number 1 is great but again, the bench is a touch distracting (nothing major) - you've caught a lovely moment with that one too, I like the general make-up of the shot, and the PP is lovely. The only thing I'd do though, is remove the hand and the shopping bag from the right!

Brilliant as always! You always inspire me, but I'm still too scared!

Re: Quick trip to town...on the street

Thanks Laura, appreciate the C&C, some of these I'd probably crop a little differently but for speed and aesthetics of the page I decide to keep them all the same format as taken. The sandwich board, well theres a consequence of using f4 on a small sensor camera...and indeed using a compact. The board would have been going into bokeh blur on my usual full frame D700, but on a little camera like this, it remains sharp... and also, you can never quite be sure where the focus is unlike an SLR which gives me the focus points in the viewfinder.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look, appreciated.

Re: Quick trip to town...on the street

Of course, street photography is a minefield of challenges I think you do amazingly, and for a compact these really are ace!

Re: Quick trip to town...on the street

Number 2 for me...very sixties feel to it and nice bit of social commentary.

The others are all stunning in their own ways.

Superb days work!

Re: Quick trip to town...on the street

I like the irony of No2, but really like the 4th shot, it's the one that really stands out for me. 3 is great too, love his expression No 1, want to see the rest of his sax, the hand doesn't really bother me, as you are capturing what wandered into your frame at , that moment.

Number one and two for me Stu, but a great set. Pity about the reflection in the specs, because that would have been a stunner!

Number one for me and a great set overall.

The last one I would leave as it is he looks like an old pirate.
