Yes they are a little noisy Azz which shows up more when cropped a bit, especially #3 which was cropped the most.

Re: Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail & Robin

They are very noisy, and some of the feather detail is lost - which is a shame - but hey are still nice portraits of lovely birds! And you've done better than me on the grey wagtail front - I always fail at getting photos of them! XD

Yes, that and because I selected 1/800 sec shutter speed. The ISO was automatically selected. I could have used a slower shutter speed and reduced the ISO slightly, ie shot at 1/650 sec or slower, but doing so with a 400mm f5.6 is not such a good idea if you want to capture twitchy little birds.

noise can become a problem at high ISO when shooting distant objects ie small birds that are distant in the frame then cropping in on that subject.
I don't use noise reduction so noise is more evident on the large crops.

I've applied some NR from Canon's DPP software which is exactly the same as using it on camera. The first image (pied wagtail) did not need it IMO but I applied some anyway. The Robin and grey wagtail have benefited from the use of some NR.

I should have added in my first post that the grey wagtail is about an 85% crop and the Robin about 65%.
