Re: What flash should I go for!! (D40)

I'm looking at a cheap SB600 for my Nikon D80... maybe that would work with the D40?

Does anyone know if this flash is any good? I've never really done any flash work, and i've always hated using the built in flash... It always makes my pictures look harsh and amaturish... (blame the tools! lol )

As far as I know the SB flashes do work with the D40.

Depends how bright you want the flash I guess - I'd have thought for non professional use the Sb-400 would be fine @ Finbar.

Stu - I hear the SB flashes are very good

Re: What flash should I go for!! (D40)

Im shooting with th Sb600 it will shoot on camera fine with any nikon model - however if you want to go off camera - The camera needs to be able to shoot in commander mode aka Nikon's CLS (Creative Lighting System) and cant be triggered from your flash alone.

Im sure the d40 doesnt allow for this so you wil need to trigger the flash another way ie Cable or IR

Not to sure about the d80 but i think it does shoot cls??

The SB600 is a very good flashgun I have one and it can be used remotely with my
Nikon D200 but I am not sure if it will do the same with yours.

Re: What flash should I go for!! (D40)

Depends on your budget - and what you want to use it for...

I use this Metz flash dedicated to my Canon EOS - however they have dedicated Nikon versions as well.. It has a high guide number (so the light travels further - a greater range) and also has a little in built flash for fill-in when you are tilting the head to bounce your light off another surface - take a look:
