Axel (Greyhound)

I have been away for ages, but I used to come quite regularly. Life has been crazy, but I miss my photography hobby. So, on a recent camping trip, I took time out to try some different 'attempting to be arty' photos of my dog, Axel.

I wanted to get a shot of his paw in focus and him (recognisable) behind out of focus. My camera doesn't have the best aperture, but I hope this worked. This is what I consider to be the best attempt, please tell me how I can improve it (other than get a better camera, as I can't afford one yet)

I think the focusing is fine, i can see what you are aiming to do, but find the grass really distracting. I think if you attempted the shot with Axel laying on any other surface it would work better

The depth of field is good though I agree that it would be improved by less grass and the whole paw being visible.

I agree with the guys above - a bit too much grass tbh, but good attempt nonetheless.

Thanks guys, I'll try it on another surface then. I hadn't realised it would be so distracting - I guess I was going for a 'finding the beast in the undergrowth' thing...he he.

I like the idea, perhaps just press some of the grass down when your out and about again.
