Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens

Went to order the lens I have been saving for Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens, and every legit place I tried has it on back order????

Tried 5 different camera big retail chains and all the same. There are some dodgy ones who tell you they have it, but they are the ones who take your money, and you have to wait forever, and have bad reviews.

It seems strange that none of them have stock, plus they are taking back orders so the stock when it arrives will go to them first. Going to try Calumet, online it says ring for availability, so fingers crossed.

From what I've seen it's a nice lens - no wonder it's in short supply. Hope you get yours soon!

Re: Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens

It is very sharp Moonie but lacks manual controls, I got the 35mm f2 instead and it's a corker, and full frame compatable. The 1.8 is meant to be a tad sharper but it's academic I am sure, my f2 seems as sharp as it could be. Actually I have enjoyed playing with the 28mm f2.8 prime too. I quite like the slightly wider view.

Re: Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens

No joy at Calumet either, they have a waiting list too it is so popular, they get them in and poof! they have all gone

Thanks BC, but the F2 is almost double the price, and I still have a few lenses that I want to buy. The F1.8 is excellent value, and all the pics I have seen are fab, so I am going to back order it from B&H Photo and wait they won't charge my card until it arrives either

Some Amazon sellers have it for double it's street price, I want it, but I am not desperate or stupid

Blimey! I have some strong opinions about a certain camera company atm lol - so I'd best be quiet!

I hope you do get it soon enough - nothing worse than waiting for new kit for longer than you thought you had to!

Re: Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens

Oh dear Laura, have you had problems with getting something? You mentioned lights recently??

Doing the happy bunny dance
Phoned around to see how long the waiting would be, and found on the internet some people were having to wait several months! Considered getting Mum to buy it for me, and then ship it, but the price difference is big.

So ... hooray for Ebay! New,100% feedback camera shop, USA warranty. $10 over the retail price. Should be here beginning of next week. So very happy, as I had really got my heart set on it

Re: Nikon 35mm AF-S DX NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens

I ordered my 35mm f/1.8G from amazon and it took about a month from order date to my door.

All in all the lens is quite sharp and very quick to focus. It's also really nice in low light as i'd expect from a 1.8. The Bokeh is silky smooth, but due to the focal length isn't quite as big/ethereal as a deeper focal length.

My most major complaint with the lens is with Chromatic Aberration in full daylight. When investigating my photos at 100% view, it's got quite a bit of magenta fringing and occasionally cyan. It's a little disappointing, but at that price point you can't get TOO picky ya know? My photos aren't suffering too much from this but there's more CA than my 50mm f/1.8D

BlackCloud, the 35mm and 28mm lenses you mentioned are full frame lenses, correct? Their focal lengths would end up being 52.5mm and 42mm respectively after 1.5x DX crop. If you're shooting with a DX frame, the 35mm G gives a bit wider field of view than these 2 lenses on DX.

And ye shall receive:

These are some of my fave 35mm DX shots. There is a good deal of sharpness even wide open and this lens is pretty capable of producing that nice "isolating" depth-of-field. Note that most of these (except the last shot) are shot wide open at f/1.8. The flower was shot at f/2.0.

Hope you all enjoy the pics. C&C always welcome.
