Things are only worth what people are willing to pay for them - if people stop buying they won't have much choice they can either make a smaller profit, or none at all.

Personally I am not going to pay more than what they were selling for in December - no way, they were a touch on the high side then anyway, now they're just extortionate!

Hey Azz, the stop buying theory was what I was saying in Nov/Dec time here in the forums but Nikon didn't listen to me! I was amazed at the price of nifty fifties too. Autumn last year you could buy one at Jessops for £80 (£70 with a voucher) and look now...£120! That's 50% increase or more. In comparison, the D300 has only gone up maybe 20%.

I know I made this point before too, but I think it is profiteering. I know the £ has lost value, but many other prices haven't risen and in fact things like tv's, electricals, computers continue to be competitive and reduce.

In fairness tho, the cost of manufacture of TVs drops a lot quicker, for eg a few years ago I bought my TV for £1000, a 32" 720p lcd, now that money gets you a full1080p 46" super duper lcd!!

I say hang on for the best you can get But then you could be saving for years... I am very seriously looking forward to my D700
