Getting to grips with 70-200mm f2.8L

Still getting to grips with the 70-200mm f2.8L IS and boy is it heavy. After carrying it around for a couple of hours ready for action, the arms realy begin to ache.

Going to have to get in training for field tests & trials 'cause they are all day events. I'll have arms like a gorilla.

What I particularly like about the lens is the selective focusing one can get when shooting at f2.8 at the 200mm end of the lens. It's good for picking out detail or isolating subjects from foreground and background.

Here's one of my favourites from this week.

Exif IFD0

* Camera Make = Canon
* Camera Model = Canon EOS 40D
* X-Resolution = 300/1 = 300
* Y-Resolution = 300/1 = 300
* X/Y-Resolution Unit = inch (2)
* Last Modified Date/Time = 2009:03:17 19:32:21
* Artist = Steve Loveridge
* Copyright Owner = Steve Loveridge

Exif Sub IFD

* Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/400 second = 0.0025 second
* Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 28/10 = F2.8
* Exposure Program = shutter priority (4)
* ISO Speed Ratings = 200
* Exif Version = 0221
* Original Date/Time = 2009:03:17 17:33:13
* Digitization Date/Time = 2009:03:17 17:33:13
* Shutter Speed Value (APEX) = 8643856/1000000
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/400 second
* Aperture Value (APEX) = 2970854/1000000
Aperture = F2.8
* Exposure Bias (EV) = 0/1 = 0
* Max Aperture Value (APEX) = 3/1 = 3
Max Aperture = F2.83
* Metering Mode = pattern / multi-segment (5)
* Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
* Focal Length = 95/1 mm = 95 mm

You get used to the weight... i carry mine round often all weekend from 8.30 - 2/3 when at races Monopod helps though and makes it easy to carry

Agree with Sam you get used to the weight. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 is heavy, just slightly heavier than the Canon one, but you quickly get used to it and dont really notice it after a time. I also use a monopod a lot. Thats a really nice shot too!!

Re: Getting to grips with 70-200mm f2.8L

OOPs I nearly always take two cameras with me most places and just grab one put a lens on it and leave the rest of the gear hidden in the truck. Quite often don't look to see what body and this seems to be one of the occasions.

Sorry Azz didn't mean to confuse everyone
