How do you get the bokeh Mel? On my current lens I zoom in as much as I can and go for a wide aperture :-/

Now I wasn't that keen on the Bokeh produced by the 1.8, maybe it was just the images I saw as the bottom shot doesn't look too bad

Whatever your views the 'nifty fifty' or 'plastic fantastic' is a good fun creative lens for the cost of a night at the local.

I have this lens Phil, for portraits it's excellent, this is a remarkable lens for the money.
For moving subjects forget it, I dont think the auto-focus is up to the job.

I take it those were with your 40d ?
I was thinking along the same lines really - 'still' dog shots and family in the garden.

Great detail esp in Loki's tongue but who is the ginger dog in picture 1 (and 3 if the same) ?

The ginger dog is called Max
he is a cross staffy and belongs to my mother.Here is another one taken with the nifty fifty & 400d
