Re: Why aren't there more video posts???

The fact the my DSLR can shoot video wasn't a factor in purchasing it, I only use it shoot personal stuff, and I am sure nobody wants to watch my dogs acting like loons, my cats going nuts, the hamster on his wheel, my fish swimming etc........... I shot a lot of video when I was home in November, and was glad I had the function on the camera, but most of the stuff I shoot would bore people.

How do you actually know it would bore people? I find fish swimming in a tank very relaxing, and a hampster in a wheel amusing. Thats apart from the dogs and cats.

Its not until you actually post those videos would you know. Nothing is ever achieved without trying and finding out, surmising never get one anywhere.

That was very good Gaz, I really enjoyed that

But it is not representative of the average amateur movies that I've seen, yes in a sound filled environment such as your example the standard mike will pick this up no trouble, although if you had been near someone with a cough I suspect that would have been picked also because of the use of cheap built-in elect omnidirectional mike.

My point is people never give the sound as much thought as the video content and you often hear background noises (TV, people talking, mobile phones ringing). If you use a radio mike or a good unidirectional mike to pick your subject up, you would get much better results.

@ Bazza, I didn't choose to have video built into my camera, unfortunately Canon in there marketing wisdom chose to fit it. I would have much preferred them to have spent a bit more time and effort on R&D of things relating to photography, like increased dynamic range.

All of the above is my personal view and I'm certainly not typically representative of the greater populous

Re: Why aren't there more video posts???

This is of course true...the mic on the Sony is of quite good quality but it is stuck on top of the flash and can pick up focus motor noises and such...luckily like a lot of the Canon range it has facility for an external mic, and I'm going to be getting one specifically for this...

On a side note, that was The Segue Sisters and Kirsty Newton from Mitch Ben and the Distractions...they're great, they're lovely and they're friends of mine. Jess Robinson, the singer in purple, is leaving the group for a couple of months because she's touring with the play Little Voice, in the titular role. I can't recommend it strongly enough

*Proud of his talented friends*

Re: Why aren't there more video posts???

Basically I am not interested in video, and I don't have the time or inclination to upload 99% of the videos I do take... it takes *hours* on our crappy internet connection. Anyway, it's not of any interest to me, I'm interested in stills photography - and I have to say, I also find the sound woefully inadeqate, and I don't have the knowledge to do anything about it.

I got a D300s because they discontinued the D300 just before I bought it. I didn't want video, specifically - but these days nearly all DSLRs seem to have video... hard to avoid it!
