Why aren't there more video posts???

There are a lot of members on here who have cameras capable of taking videos, yet there appears to be a strong reluctance to post any videos.
This leads me to wonder why bother to buy a camera that can take both stills and movies yet only use half the cameras functions.

So lets see some more videos and have a monthly competiton for the best video.

Re: Why aren't there more video posts???

Hey Bazza,

Although my 1dmkIV will shoot video I have never bothered with it, unfortunately it just doesn't interest me. I used to video my daughter through the years when she was growing up.

Unless your going to go to some lengths, I think the sound track generally lets a lot of video recordings down too.

TBH I shoot videos of family stuff, and roads trips etc, so unless you are part of my family, not interesting. It would probably bore the arse off anyone else

Sunset on the River Nile (check out the zoom) and yes those are people on small boats between the cruise liners. You just can't get the same out of a still photo. Needed a rest after that video so checking out the chairs at the end of shoot(well that's my excuse)

There is so much more to a video and gives a better idea of the surroundings the shoot has been taken in.

Re: Why aren't there more video posts???

Not every photographer is interested in cinematography and not every film maker is into photography they are disciplines in their own right.

Of course most people shoot video of personal events for memories etc, but they're not the sort of thing you'd share on a photography (or cinematography) site - unless of course they have been created with the fundamentals of the discipline in mind (i.e. not just point and shoot).

Also, as we're a photography forum, movies/films etc would go in the off topic section.

Re: Why aren't there more video posts???

I again have to ask myself why people bother to spend extra money on cameras that take videos then? seems a bit pointless to me. If all anyone is interested in is taking just stills then for me the obvious answer is to buy a better camera that only does just that.

Don't get me wrong I love my Nikon D300 and the ability to "fix" a photo in editing, and can understand why people take stills,I just can't get my head around why buy a duel purpose camera if you are only going to use half of what its capable of. Bit like buying a push bike, taking off the wheels and carrying it.

Maybe a section for videos on here may give some encouragement.

yes it is Mossy and photography includes video as well as stills. As I said before there seems to be a reluctance posting in this form of photography. I just can't believe that there is absolutely no one has taken anything of interest in this medium. Personally I would love to see videos of other countries taken not as a professional shoot but places not normally shown.

Lets go back a few years, where would we be if we couldn't see movies made in the early 1900's? Harold Lloyd - Buster Keaton to name but two would only just be names and we wouldn't have a clue about them other than just photographs. Comming up to date there would be no cinemas or films to watch, no major historical events to see again. Even old home 35mm movies are now collectors items reflecting on times gone by

I rest my case

I have to respectfully disagree about the sound, Ken. I filmed this on Tuesday night on my Sony A57, and I think the sound is more than adequate
