Olympic Ban.

Just read this article in the Daily Mail concerning banned items at the Olympics, once again photographers are singled out for owning a DSLR.

Re: Olympic Ban.

Not sure if they are just trying to stop really big lenses from being a nuisance within the crowded seated grandstands. Personally I would never take my big lens into a grandstand as it will block peoples side view.

But it doesn't really say what constitutes a big lens camera.

I must admit I hate noisy air horns though.

Re: Olympic Ban.

Not sure how I feel about it - I have no interest at all in the Olympics, so it would never affect me. Perhaps they are trying to stop people from getting good shots if they're not paying for a press pass? :/

Re: Olympic Ban.

Use a bridge camera. Now a Nikon with 42X optical zoom = to 1000mm lens, with image stabilisation can be used hand held. Just a thought.

Re: Olympic Ban.

My point is, i could not use my 10.1 megapixel 40d + 70-200mm lens as it would be considered a long lens, but as pointed out camera phones and bridge cameras can exceed my set up and would probably allowed. Im not interested in the event, just feel its the thin end of the wedge and it seems carrying a DSLR is seen as branding you a potential peado or terrorist

Re: Olympic Ban.

Premier League football is the same.

In my experience an SLR wouldn't be allowed into the stadium even if it had a kit lens but a compact with a zoom would be fine.

By the letter of the law though it should be the same for everybody. I'm not sure if this wording is up to date though.....

No person (other than a person who holds an appropriate licence) may bring into (or use within) the Ground any equipment which is capable of recording or transmitting (by digital or other means) any audio, visual or audio-visual material or any data or information in relation to the Match or any aspect of it.

However, Mobile telephones are permitted within the Ground, provided that they are used for personal and private use only PROVIDED THAT no audio, visual or audio-visual mateiral captured by a mobile telephone may be published or otherwise made available to any third parties including, without limitation, via social networking sites.

Re: Olympic Ban.

I don't know where you get that Dslr owners are being singled out.
The restriction is on equipment over 30cm in length so it is perfectly possible to
take in a camera with a "longish" lens.
My D3 with a 300mm prime fitted (albeit a pretty slow lens) is only 27cm so would be allowed.
I certainly would not want someone sitting in front of me waving about a 600mm monster.

I would suggest reading the list of restricted items properly rather than reading the Daily Wail for your information.
