Buy a ND10!

Ditch shutter speed and go manual, meter the exposure with filter off and then use a chart to calculate the with filter exposure time. Many charts on the web for nd exposures and free apps should you have an iPhone.

I rarely use a chart now as I have an idea from playing with the filter the exposure times I need. Which came in useful when I was playing on holiday with my phone back in England.

I often stack 2 filters, nd10 and an nd4. There is little noticeable distortion, only the slight cast when using the nd10, easily fixed in pp.

Shoot early morning and late afternoon will give you the best exposure times, shoot smallest aperture that lens will give.

Being new to this I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I wanted to get long exposure times like you do in your pictures, but I don't have the money for a Lee filter (Hence going for a Hoya for around £30).
I was just after something that I could leave it open for 20+ seconds if I wanted too.

Before I go ahead and buy it does do you or any know what the difference between that one and Hoya 58mm PRO-1 DIGITAL ND64 Filter is?

Hoya 58mm Pro-1D ND64 Filter

The Hoya 58mm Pro-1 Digital ND64 filter is a dark neutral density filter which reduces the amount of light entering the lens by 6 stops.

It is a 6 stop ND filter so would let a third more light through than 9 stop.

I have just bought a Genus ND fader filter for my 50mm. I will let you know what i think of it. I have been told its is great quality on build and performance.
