I have used my 7D up to 3200 iso and get usable image without noise reduction.

Todays kit is a great leap forward if you cast your mind back to film, if you used 800 iso or 1600 iso film your images had loads of grain and were very poor quality.

But in the 70s it was the best you could get..showing my age now

Thanks Natalie, Those are not easy things to photograph as there small and fast. I used to have RC model myself many years ago so know how much fun they can be.

Hi Natalie I'm sure you will have fun photographing RC cars they are fast and full of action I use race 1/8th & 1/6th scale so fast I loved it but got so expensive, on the white 1/6th scale the power pipe alone was £120 and lot of parts were carbon fibre..

Owen. Why was in neccesary to take the photos of the birds at 3200?

Surely it wasn't that dark outside?

It looks like you used a wide apature? so what was your shutter speed? It must have been ultra fast... way faster than you need and you could have shot a lot lower ISO.

Hi Paul the area is dark its in a corner of woodland, I was in same place only a few days before and really struggled with light, so after seeing results of others using higher ISO and reading that d5100 was ok with high ISO I left the camera to do the work and used auto ISO and this is the results it come with. I normally use 100 to 400 but still a learning curve...Thanks
