Re: Canon 550D and CS5

First off I would suggest that if you require help of a technical nature it is better if the thread is kept on line and not full of posts not related to the question in any way.

I have tried to read through this thread to see if I could help and gave up because of the multitude of non relevant posts (kent for instance??).

What I have managed to decipher between the garbage is that you cannot open 550D raw files in CS5. Don't take this wrong but is the CS5 a legal copy? Have to ask as this is quite often the cause of a lot of problems associated with Adobe products not installing updates.

I have borrowed a couple of 550D raw files from a friend and they open in both CS5 Bridge and Lightroom with no problems.

Have you tried using the "Update" button under the "Help" tab in CS5?

Sorry about being a bit of a grump but I have been put of reading the whole thread and would expect others would also. It is difficult to try and keep track of what has been suggested and what hasn't.

Moody old sod ....... Steve

Well the 'garbage' as you see it helped keep the thread alive until you could share your technical wisdom.

Re: Canon 550D and CS5

I have tried everything I can think of Steve. Help updated says I am up to date. The copy of CS5 is mine. I have read on other websites and I am not alone here. There seems to be a problem with CS5 and the 550D. (Why Canon have to do this is beyond me).
When I try to install the plug in manually I get this...

Contact customer support just takes you to the help pages,... which are of no help.

Re: Canon 550D and CS5

Thank you OG. Just downloaded the DNGConverter_6_4.exe and converting them now opens a raw file

Re: Canon 550D and CS5

It means OG I can now shoot in raw and jpeg at the same time. If there is a certain picture I want to get something more out of I can now convert it. Big Thanks again.

Just out of interest does anyone know why Canon use different raw files on different models?

Re: Canon 550D and CS5

All do it mate. They get yer to buy something then change it so you have to buy it over again.

Glad you can at least use it now. Adobe have a bad rep for sorting out customers but they put a lot into updates because of this very problem.

Total stab in the dark here Dave but might it be to get us to purchase more software?
