A couple of canon Questions

Hi,
I'm looking to add to my canon 500d kit, on a budget. I've been looking at flash guns, something like the Nissin Di466.

The lenses i've been thinking about is either the Sigma AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG APO lens or Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom AF Lens.

Anyone had experience of any of these, did they work ok on a canon and which of the two lenses produce the best picture quality?

Thanks
Andrea

Re: A couple of canon Questions

The latest issue of Canon's mag (photoplus) has an article on bargain telephoto lenses - both of those are featured. The Canon comes out on top but only just!

If it were my choice I'd go Canon - but that is just my personal opinion!

I don't have either lens, I do have the 18 - 200 Canon, it's the lens I use most.

Re: A couple of canon Questions

If 300mm isn't a must - EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS would be my suggestion. It does have a reputation for punching above it's weight.

Re: A couple of canon Questions

I've got the EF-S 55-250mm. It isn't a top quality lens like the 'L' series but never the less for about £175 you will get good image quality as well as IS which is a a useful function. It is not a heavy lens, easy to carry around but doesn't come with a lens hood. If you are planning for the future to upgrade to full frame then you won't be able use this lens. For a flash gun have a look at the Sigma EF-530 DG Super.

Re: A couple of canon Questions

Hey, thanks for the advice.
As anyone got any pics taken with either of these two lenses?

I may upgrade later on to a XXD but it's highly unlikely i'll ever go to XD bodies.
