A true macro is fixed. There are macro modes on most zooms but they don't do as good a job.

Re: recommended macro lens?

Bob is right and generally any fixed focal length lens will be superior to a zoom, macro tele or wide.

Re: recommended macro lens?

ok so i have to think carefully when it comes to a macros fix length as i dont want to be either too close or too far away. Is there any shops which can allow you to test out the lens?

Re: recommended macro lens?

Any camera shop worth its salt will, even Je$$ops. Problem is finding a shop with all of them in.

If you are wanting to do bugs with the lens, then you need at least 100mm, longer the better. You mention wanting to do wildlife, then you will need at least 150mm if not more to stand a chance of getting anything any sort of distance away.

Any shop worth its salt should be willing to put their lenses on a camera body in the store and show you the differences. Keep in mind that a fixed focal length lens means you physically must move to frame your photo. Try it in the store on the salesman/woman to see how far away you are with them in focus and encompassing their upper torso. Then try a macro shot on something on the camera counter and see how close the camera is to the subject when in focus. That will give you the information you need to make a choice between 50/60mm and 100/105mm macros.
